PT's Data Center in Covilhã is one of the largest infrastructures of its kind in the world, with a total area of 75.500 m2, the equivalent of more than 10 soccer pitches.
The campus consists of four technical blocks that house the data storage facilities and a support building for offices, storage and parking areas.
The first phase of the project, inaugurated in September 2013, included the construction of a technical block and the support building, with a total investment of 90 million euros.

Pluggable electric connections
This data center is a milestone in technological innovation in Portugal, is powered 100% by renewable energy sources and is LEED certified. It is estimated that the project has created 1400 direct and indirect jobs, boosting the local economy.
In the office area of the support building, one of the main objectives was to ensure that the workstations could be adjusted as required. A modular electrification solution was implemented that allows for quick and easy adjustments, without compromising the safety and efficiency of the operation.
Osvaldo Matos' square-shaped DIM RGB LED panels make the ceiling look like a single piece. Installed at a height of 18 meters, the panels will be connected in groups of 4, this group powered by an LED driver. F.Fonseca with Osvaldo Matos, developed all the necessary cabling, as well as the corresponding Gesis® pluggable electric connections for: from the electrical panel to each lighting circuit; from controller to controller; and from the controllers to each LED panel.

The challenge was to guarantee the electrical instalation of the work blocks in a short time and in a flexible manner, with easy identification of circuits and no errors during assembly.
There was no doubt that the ideal solution would be Wieland Electric Gesis® system, which allowed the electrical components to be pre-assembled and tested off-site. This approach resulted in a fast and efficient installation on site, minimizing assembly time and ensuring safety.
185 distribution boxes with 1x input and 4x outputs per circuit were installed, along with 1500 halogen-free pre-sectorized cables. The color of the cables was differentiated by circuit to facilitate identification (black for normal sockets and white for emergency sockets).
