SUCCESS CASE
LC Technologies is a company based in Aveiro with extensive experience in developing high-tech equipment and instrumentation based on microwaves and millimeter waves for international laboratories.

It is true that there is an incessant search for the best, cheapest and cleanest source of energy. And this is where LC Technologies' solutions come in, making it possible to carry out measurements on nuclear fusion plasmas, i.e. the clean energy of the future.
Project: Future clean energy
Sector: Energy
Highlight product: Board computer module PC/104 - Advantech
Final client: International investigation labs
Integrator: LC Technologies
"Nuclear fusion is the process in which two or more atomic nuclei come together to form another nucleus with a higher atomic number. It requires a lot of energy to occur but generally releases much more energy than it consumes."

In other words, instead of splitting atoms to release energy as in nuclear fission, it combines small hydrogen atoms into a plasma that produces energy. This plasma produces several times more energy than fission. For that, it is required a controlled environment with temperatures above 100 million degrees Celsius.

LC solutions include diagnostic instruments that use millimeter waves with frequencies of 30 to 300GHz and can measure the fusion plasma, which is at a very high temperature of several million degrees.

Advantech's PCM-3343EF PC104 controllers are used precisely in these fusion plasma measurement instruments, as the customer needed a stable and reliable industrial solution that guaranteed compatibility with the x86 architecture, since they use software with a long lifespan.
A world without oil has never been more envisioned than it is today and the truth is that in this field there seems to be no energy source that compares to nuclear fusion. But there are many obstacles to overcome and the technology has yet to evolve.

F.Fonseca provided technical advice to LC Technologies in order to find an industrial solution that would meet the demanding requirements of this application. The Advantech brand has made it possible to provide this solution with the required quality and unconditional technical support.
USED PRODUCTS

Advantech's PCM-3343 model PC/104 board was used, with a low-power (<5 Watts) Vortex86DX CPU at 800 MHz with 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM memory without fans.
This card supports VGA and 24-bit LVDS or TTL with resolution up to 1024 x 768.
The two LAN ports prevent the use of a switch and allow the use of two separate networks.
The board also includes 16-bit digital inputs and outputs for additional functions such as alarms or remote control.
