Non-contact safety switches – Sick

Stricter safety regulations and the need for tamper-proof safety at work make modern safety switches indispensable in machine building. Non-contact safety switches from Sick can be used for the safe monitoring of movable guards as well as for position monitoring.
The choice among three operating principles (magnetic, transponder and inductive) and different designs allow the selection of the solution that best fits the application requirements and the one that is most efficient.

Magnetic safety switches:
The use of magnetic safety switches is an advantage in areas with high contamination or strict hygiene regulations. In applications where precise guiding of the protective device is difficult, magnetic safety switches from Sick are the right choice.

Transponder safety switches:
Transponder safety switches are used in applications which require a protection against tampering. The saved actuator code is the same as the safety switch code, ensuring protection against tampering. Transponder safety switches also have a high response range, this offers advantages during installation and increases the availability during machine’s life.

Inductive safety switches:
Inductive safety switches are used for non-contact and wear-free position detection. They do not require a special counterpart but detect metal such as VA or ST37. In comparison with electro-mechanical position switches, inductive safety switches have a wide response range and are therefore not affected by mounting tolerances, which simplifies installation and adjustment.

Safety hinge switches are used for monitoring rotatable protective devices, e.g., swiveling gate and hinged doors. The hollow or solid shaft of the safety hinge switch forms a fixed and positive connection between the safety switch and the door hinge. Safety locking devices are used for keeping guards safely locked until a hazardous area can be entered. They are intended for applications in which there is an immediate danger to people when delayed stopping or an uncontrolled process interruption has the potential to cause injury or death. There are two restraint types, including spring force locking and magnetic force locking. With spring force locking, the guard is held closed by spring force. In magnetic force locking, the guard is held closed by activation of the magnetic coil.

Safety position switch - Sick

Sick safety position switches are used for reliably identifying dangerous movements, even at high speeds. These switches use an actuator that is in a positive connection with the safety switch. There are two different actuators: the roller plunger for determining exact positions and the turning lever for identifying rapid movements. The safety position switch is actuated directly by the protective device.

Safety switches with separate actuator - Sick

Safety switches with a separate actuator are made up of two parts: a safety switch that is mounted on the fixed part and an actuator that is mounted on the mobile part of the guard. When the guard is closed, the actuator is moved into the safety switch. This achieves the safe status and the safety-relevant contacts are closed. These devices are ideal for protecting sliding and rotating doors, as well as removable protective covers. Sick offers variants with different shapes and functions – from compact to standard - for corresponding applications.

TR4 Direct transponder safety switches – Sick

Non-contact safety switches with high level of prevention against tampering  

Transponder safety switches are used in applications where a high level of prevention against tampering is essential. The safety switch determines which actuator code to use and will not engage unless the proper actuator code is read. The safety switches have a wide response range, which is highly beneficial for mounting and considerably reduces machine downtime. Some safety switches are extremely small and have a central evaluation unit in the control cabinet, while others have an integrated evaluation unit with an LED status indicator. Various versions, including multicode and unicode variants, enable connectivity of up to 30 safety switches.
