With diverse volume flow measuring devices SICK provides solutions for a wide variety of measuring tasks - from calculating volume flows in processes, custody transfer applications in natural gas industry, environmental monitoring of plants, on test stands in automotive industry and many others.

The product family FLOWSIC100 was designed for emission monitoring tasks. The "H" versions are suitable for stacks with large diameters and applications with high dust content. The "M" versions are especially suited for stacks with medium diameter. The ultrasonic transducers of the "PR" probe type are mounted with fixed path length on one sender/receiver unit (measuring probe). The "AC" versions have an innovative internal cooling and are suitable for gas temperatures up to 450 °C. The purged "Px" versions are used for gases with high concentrations of sticky or wet dust.

If a pipeline (through which a medium flows) is reduced at a particular point by a cross-sectional constriction, the flow speed of the measured medium is increased at that point. According to Bernoulli’s energy equation and the law of continuity, the total flow head (dynamic velocity head and static pressure head) is constant. The increase in speed at the constriction causes a reduction in the static head.
 
The resulting pressure drop is called the differential pressure head; it is a measure of the flow (volume per unit of time or mass per unit of time). The flow rate q is given by: q = c√∆p The flow rate (q) is a function of the square root of the differential pressure head (∆p), where c is the coefficient of flow rate determined by the shape of the differential  pressure transducer and the operating data. The pipeline may be constricted with orifice plates.

Oval gear flowmeters are categorised as positive displacement flow technology. When liquid flows through this type of positive displacement flowmeter, two oval geared rotors measure a constant volume per rotation within a precisely machined measuring chamber.

With each rotation, a constant volume of liquid is measured. The rotation of the oval gears is sensed via magnets embedded within the rotors. These magnets transmit a high resolution pulse output. The output signal can be processed externally via a remote display controller or PLC or via a variety of output/display options available as accessories attached to the flowmeters.

Viscosity compensated flow meter VKM – KOBOLD

The KOBOLD flowmeters and switches model VKM have a spring-loaded float, which slides within a cylindrical measuring tube and has an integral orifice which is believed to be unique. This and other design features mean that it has for the first time become possible to create a flowmeter and switch which fully compensates for viscosity and to a large extent for density even with very low flows.
 
The float of these patented devices contains a permanent magnet which actuates a potential free bistable reed contact mounted outside the flow thus ensuring hermetic separation between the medium and the electrical contact system. The contact is embedded within a height-adjustable plastic housing to prevent damage to the contacts by mechanical action or aggressive atmospheres.
